When people call and say "I want my windshield tinted," they're usually picturing a visibly darker windshield, or that dark band across the top some cars have. That's not what I'm installing — and doing the whole windshield that dark would put you outside California law, which we'll get into below.
What I actually put on your windshield is a clear, 80% VLT ceramic film. Most factory windshields are already sitting around 70% VLT straight from the manufacturer — so this is a nearly invisible layer going on top of glass that's already tinted. You won't walk up to the car and notice a difference. What you will notice is how much less heat and glare makes it through once you're actually driving.
Think of it less like "window tint" and more like sunscreen for your windshield — heat rejection and UV protection, with the glass looking exactly the way it did from the factory.
IS WINDSHIELD TINT
EVEN LEGAL IN CA?
Short answer: mostly no — unless it's done right. This is exactly where some shops get sloppy, or just don't tell you what you're actually getting.
California Vehicle Code §26708 is specific about the front windshield. The only part of it allowed to carry non-reflective tint is the top 4 inches — the strip above the AS-1 line etched into your glass, usually right around where a factory sun-shade band sits.
Everything below that line has to keep at least 70% combined visible light transmission between the glass and any film applied to it — and it can't be reflective. That's the line between a legal, professional install and the illegal dark strips or full-windshield tints some shops will still put on if you ask. Our film sits at 80% VLT, well clear of that 70% floor, and it's non-reflective — so it keeps your windshield fully street-legal, edge to edge.

EXACTLY WHEN IT HITS
If you commute through Orange County, you already know the moments I'm talking about. Eastbound on the 91 in the morning, sun sitting right at windshield height through Anaheim and into Corona traffic. Westbound on the 405 through Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach as the sun drops toward the coast — that low-angle glare that has you squinting through the last five miles home. Or stacked up at the 55/22 interchange through Santa Ana and Garden Grove, glass baking, dash throwing heat back at you with nowhere for it to go.
That's UV and infrared heat coming straight through a factory windshield that was never built to stop much of it. Over years of driving, that's a dashboard that cracks and fades, a steering wheel too hot to hold at 4pm, and yes — sunburn through the glass on long drives, especially on the left arm and side of your face that never gets a break from direct sun on a commute like the 91 or the 405.
